Staying at home on this Bank Holiday weekend

Hello and Good Morning on this Good Friday bank holiday. The sun is out and it looks promising. I'm kicking off with an early blog post because I have things to do. Thank you for joining in the discussion yesterday, lots of thoughts about vegans and carnivores, and all variations in between. It's a topic that will be talked about forever and a day.
A quickie post today. My redundant bed upstairs is coming in useful as a place where I can gather a few materials together to plan out a new project. It's raised enough so I don't have to bend down too far, and low enough to see the whole picture as I piece it together. It's loosely based on a picture I saw on Lovely Grey's blog. Not an exact copy but it's given me some ideas. I want to get away from using traditional colours when constructing landscapes. The piece of A4 paper to the right of it is a pencil drawing I made, I'm using this for the scale. Bit by bit, it will come together.
The daffodils outside my back door come up year after year. I put the plastic markers there as they start to appear, because I forget in the early stages and keep stepping on them. Luckily they have survived my clumsy feet to flower again.

I hope you have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend. I am not going anywhere, I don't like joining the throngs in their dash down the motorway to wherever. We'll catch up soon.

  1. Yes, it's a lovely Good Friday here in Torbay, too, Ilona. Bright blue sky and since our neighbour had his hedge cut (which is between his and our property) once again we have a glimpse of the sea, which is lovely. We will be out in the garden, too, later on, I expect - I need to spring clean the summerhouse for starters and unbale the table and chairs which have been covered with a green tarpaulin for the winter. Whatever you are doing, have a lovely day.

  2. Your future art work looks interesting! A lovely sunny day here, in fact I've just had 10 mins in a deckchair as our back garden is a sun trap. Our cat loves it! Hopefully it will do her skin the world of good. We're also avoiding the crowds this weekend - can't see the point in sitting in a traffic jam - drives me crackers!Let's all enjoy the sun while it lasts.

  3. Have a lovely weekend Ilona. I do like the pictures you do. Gorgeous colours and you always do such neat work. Like you I won't be venturing far this weekend. We've just got home after a short walk near a local farm. I have no intention of going into the lakes this weekend. The traffic will, no doubt, be crazy. X

  4. I know what you mean about the daffodils. I took a lot of pictures of my perennial flowers last year so I can remember where I planted the new ones and avoid treading on them - or letting the chickens scratch them up - this Spring.
    Enjoy your holiday!

  5. Hey Ilona, I love your flowers. My daffodils have bloomed for the third time since I planted them last May!! I got 50 bulbs for 20p in May from tesco in clear out but. I planted them straight away. They bloomed in September, then again in December and are now in full bloom again with three heads per stem!! A true life tale of frugality, bargains, yellow stickers (with a hint of bragging from me, I don't mind admitting- I love their three heads!) I thought you would enjoy! Happy Easter!

    2. Thank you Jan, I'm very pleased with them. Not everybody in real life is fully appreciative about how amazing this is but I knew that Ilona's blog would be the perfect place to share the tale of my legendary daffodils- bargainous and beautiful, what's not love?!

    3. Hi SS. Your thriftyness and patience has paid dividends. A good lesson to learn. If you are prepared to wait and invest a little bit of time, there's a good chance you will be rewarded.

  8. Just back from a week in Weston super Mare. I have walked my little legs off so will be really pleased with my mileage this month. It was lovely to see all the green fields and daffodils on our return. I don't think I am a beach person... give me green fields and hills anytime. x

  13. I always enjoy your artwork, and your flowers are beautiful. My problem is not stepping on them as they come up, but I sometimes forget to leave them alone as they're dying back. That costs me blooms the following year.

  15. The new project looks interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing the progression and the outcome.

I also want to thank you for your solid example of handling criticism. I was jumped on for a post I had made on a money saving site and I thought about how astutely you answer your critics. That helped me give a straightforward explanation without sounding annoyed.... which I was!!
