New list of Walking Group Members for 2018

Hello. I've just gone through the comments and now have the lists of Walking Group members, total miles for last year 2017, and names of those who are starting this year 2018. The first year we did it in 2016 we started with 21 names on the list. Last year that rose dramatically to 68 names. Of those 68 I have 22 names who have checked in with their totals for the whole year. I don't know whether the others have completed the challenge and not checked in, I hope they did, or they gave up at some point during the year. As I always say, some walking is better than no walking.

So let's celebrate the achievements of the 22 who have stuck it out right to the end and shared their journey with us. There are some fantastic numbers, you should all be proud of yourselves. If you read the comments you will see that everyone is feeling a whole lot better, and fitter, and healthier, since they started. Well done everyone.

TRUMPET FANFARE.

59 members have signed up for the challenge, and as you can see we are a World Wide Walking Group. 53 walkers will be feeling great by the end of the year. The months will soon fly by, if you have to ease off through injury or illness, have a rest and get back on when you feel better. If you drop out because you can't be bothered, you will only be letting yourself down. So come on, let's not have any shirking, pull your socks up and get on with it.

Remember, it's not a race, nobody is better than anyone else because you are doing it for you. It isn't a competition, everyone taking part is a winner. You are responsible for checking your own miles or KM. We want a monthly report on how you are doing, in a comment on the first post of every month. Share your triumphs and share your misery. Good luck everyone.

Thanks for popping in, we'll catch up soon.

  6. Well done everybody! I have my own exercise goal this year which I’ll do my best to keep up, but I’ll keep an eye on your walking totals too. I’ll report in monthly, it’ll keep me honest! I love the idea of a world wide fitness group, best of luck everybody.

  7. Thanks Ilona and hello to all the new members and hope everyone enjoys doing it. I find checking in fun and motivational. I had good months and bad months but was determined to complete the year and even though I think I did the least miles I stuck with it and hope to do more this year. I wish walking was promoted more as it is excellent exercise for mature people and not nearly so daunting as being told to run or do the gym. It's free and doesn't require any fancy equipment other than suitable footwear. Good luck with your miles everyone.

    1. Don't worry how many miles you did compared with anyone else.
It's how many miles you did that you wouldn't have done without the challenge that matters.
If you can do more this year that's great.
I am intending to do slightly less. Last year's personal aim was too high. Good luck

  9. Please could you add me to your walking challenge for 2018? I finished the challenge for 2017 but am having problems with my fitbit app getting Dec totals. I will update 1/01/18 post when sorted. Thanks for setting up the challenge. I feel connected to my fellow walkers when plodding along in the rain/dark/snow!!

  10. Yay go us!! Thank you Ilona for taking the time to put this all together. You really are helping so many of us to make new habits and get fit. I'm in it for the long haul. I went walking with my daughter this morning and a lovely walk it was .... same again tomorrow before she returns to her life in San Francisco on Friday. Then, I will alternate between walking on the treadmill and walking with friends. Thanks again x

  13. Would you kindly add my name to the walking group for 2018, please. I did keep walking but missed the last few sign in dates in 2017. Will do a better job to keep on top of my totals this time around. Thanks so much. Nanny Anny in Canada. It was -22 with the wind chill here today but I bundled up and out I went. Brrr. lol.

  16. Thanks Ilona.
It feels great to have completed last year's challenge to walk everyday regardless of the weather.
I had a go in 2016 and at the beginning of 2017 we discussed whether to join again. (My Partner walks with me).
This year we haven't even discussed it; it's just part of our life now.
We are very grateful to you for starting the challenge and keeping it going. Certainly without your prompt we would not be so disciplined.
It really helps to have to sign in every month and wonderful to see the group growing worldwide. Happy walking, Sue.

  20. Thx for taking the time to arrange all this. I doubt that i would bother to do much exercise without an incentive like an online challenge. Am happy to be part of the WWW's!!!

  22. Hi Ilona, and all. I've just entered my December checkin. I participated for the last 4 months of the year and really enjoyed it. Thank you so much. I achieved my goal, and even exceeded it. The monthly checkin is very motivating to get out there and achieve your goals. I will aim for the 1000 miles this year, which is 1609.34 km for me- not such a neat target!
